A lightweight hoodie without fleece lining, with a hood and a metal zipper. Designed in a style of dark surrealism, the “Gates of Pain” hoodie is inspired by the works of the renowned Polish artist Zdzisław Beksiński. The chest features a skeleton connected to a tangle of pipes that spread across the entire garment and continue onto the sleeves and hood. On the back, the print carries the same imagery, with a round patch sewn onto the lower part bearing the abbreviation “SBS”, which stands for “SinnersBoneS”. The inside of the hoodie is also decorated with a skeleton print. The distressed effect, contrasting exterior seams, raw edges, black pocket trims, and black sleeve inserts with decorative stripes give this hoodie its unmistakable brutal style. The perfect choice for those who are not afraid to show their inner strength.

Material: 100% cotton. The print is very high quality and cannot be felt on the skin. Recommended washing temperature: no higher than 40 degrees. Ironing is possible.

Description:

Zdzisław Beksiński was born on February 24, 1929, in the small town of Sanok, Poland.
There is a certain type of artist who, despite a controversial legacy, tends to be either adored or hated. Zdzisław Beksiński is clearly one of them. He is rightly regarded as a genius of dark surrealism who carried on the tradition of drawing on the subconscious and hidden sexuality to create his works.

He never gave titles to any of his paintings and rarely attended exhibitions.

Although Beksiński’s works often look grim, he himself was known as a pleasant, witty and somewhat shy man. He felt that many of his works were misunderstood and described them as rather optimistic and even amusing.

Until the mid-1980s, the artist went through a period he called “fantastic.” During this time he created his best-known works: disturbing images set in surreal, post-apocalyptic environments, with highly detailed scenes of death and decay, distorted figures and desolate landscapes filled with skeletons.

These paintings are remarkably detailed and executed with his signature precision. At the time, Beksiński said: “I wish to paint in such a manner as if I were photographing dreams.”

Beksiński was killed in his own Warsaw apartment in February 2005, where he was found with seventeen stab wounds. The 19-year-old son of the building’s caretaker was convicted of the crime. The attack was triggered by Beksiński’s refusal to lend him money.

He once said: “What matters is what appears in your soul, not what your eyes see.”
